Project Insight: Georgia Tech University – Michael K. Anderson Renovation

Georgia Tech University’s Men and Women’s Cross Country/Track & Field teams received a new student-athlete building, including impressive locker rooms.

At the beginning of 2023, Georgia Tech unveiled the Michael K. Anderson Building to their track and field/cross country teams. The $2.8 million dollar project provided the teams and coaches with a newly renovated space with a place to lounge, train, and recover.

The remodel included new locker room renovations for the players and coaches to prepare them for their upcoming season. With a sport that requires minimal gear, the goal was to provide a locker layout with ample space for storing uniforms. Behind the locker’s door, athletes will find a fully exposed interior providing loads of hanging space and dedicated shoe drawers.

Each locker is equipped with an integrated bench with a lower pull-out drawer for additional uniform or personal storage.  The design optimizes space within the locker room, giving the team an area to socialiaze and meet without feeling too crowded.

The design is a classic look, complimenting their football and basketball teams‘ locker room renovations, both constructed by Hollman.

Locker Highlights:

  • Personal lockbox with USB charging capabilities
  • Marine Grade Vinyl integrated bench
  • Lower pull-out drawer with Aluminum grille for ventilation
  • Toe Kick LED Lighting
  • Built-in cleat shelves
  • Ample hanging space for uniforms

Project Insight: Wake Forest University Men and Women’s Basketball

Wake Forest University’s Men and Women Basketball unveiled their newly constructed clubhouses with upgraded locker rooms by Hollman, Inc.

Wake Forest University unveiled their newly constructed Chris Paul Family Men’s Basketball and Dr. Caryl Guth Women’s Basketball Clubhouses this past September. The new Clubhouses’ expansions include upgraded locker rooms that are more than double their current club spaces. One of the primary goals of their clubhouse expansion was to create a locker room that was not only attractive to recruits but a more inclusive environment for current players.

Wake Forest University is no stranger to Hollman Lockers; already renovating multiple locker rooms through us. Wake Forest’s Associate Athletic Director, Craig Zakrzewski, and University Planning and Construction Sr. Project Manager, Jill Perry, visited Hollman’s headquarters in Irving, TX. The group included Walter Robbs Callahan & Pierce’s President, Ken McDaniel, and Vannoy & Sons Construction Company, Inc.’s General Contractor, Jon-Michael Broyles.

Their visitation included a manufacturing tour and a review of the mock-ups for the Men and Women’s future lockers with our athletics team. By doing this, Wake Forest could see Hollman’s full manufacturing capabilities as well as discover concepts that were later added to their design. With this hands-on approach, the members could get a vision of what the locker room could be and work with our experts to make changes, adaptations, and additions to ensure the lockers fulfill student-athlete needs.

The lockers are comprised of primarily black Nanolam and Solid Surface materials with the Acrylic Pocket Doors that are back painted with the school’s “Demon Deacon” and “Wake Forest” verbiage displayed across the lockers as added team spirit. The teams did not mess around when it came to customization pieces that truly lit up the room – literally. The lockers include RGB LED lighting displayed throughout the locker including continuous toe-kick lighting underneath the locker and backlit acrylic shelves that can be seen when the locker interior is exposed.

The Men and Women’s lockers include 43’ inch commercial cloud-based displays above each locker, ideal for player personalization and team graphics. Behind the concealing doors, players can find interior hanging space that includes a ventilation slot to drop down drying time, three shelves for easy access storage, a lockable shelf accented with gold felt liner and a wireless charging station.

The key difference between the two locker rooms is the lower section of the locker where the soft-closing cleat drawer is placed. It was determined that the men’s team required more space in the drawer for storage while the women’s team opted for a seating option. The women’s locker includes integrated seating with marine-grade vinyl cushions; the drawer is conveniently located underneath and can be accessed through the cushion.

With the clubhouses complete, the student-athletes are fully equipped for their upcoming season and through Hollman’s design efforts, both teams have a locker room that is made for lasting impressions and team celebrations.

Project Insights | University of Maryland Football Locker Room

University of Maryland’s new football facility is transformational for players with renovations from Hollman Athletic lockers.

After years of planning and building, the University of Maryland unveiled Jones-Hill House, a brand-new facility that will home their football program. With a revamp in mind, Hollman Inc. became involved to create an eye-catching locker room to complement the other remodels.

The University of Maryland’s goals with the renovations were to improve the program’s ability to develop a student-athlete experience and attract recruits. Hollman’s engineering and research and development teams got creative by designing a locker that emphasized storage, ventilation, and representation of the great state of Maryland.

The lockers are comprised of hybrid materials with a solid surface, Nanolam, the latest micro-technology lamination whose super-opaque surface has a velvet, soft-to-the-touch finish. Each locker included powder-coated, stainless-steel edging and additional phenolic and acrylic finishes. Above all, the real attraction is the high degree of personalization and branding that went into each locker and cubby.

The new lockers each include custom, backlit nameplates with each player’s head shots, position, and hometown. All include lower ventilated deck pullout drawers with a custom monochrome facsimile of the state flag of Maryland, embossed on a perforated metal grill.

In addition to the lockers, each of the 126 cubbies featured an overstuffed custom leather Captain’s Chair, embossed with Maryland’s classic M Bar logo, capable of fully reclining. The recliners also featured full power outlets, USB charging stations, and Digilock, a secure and lockable storage area with vertically recessed interior lighting.

“This is the standard for Maryland,” University of Maryland’s Damon Evans exclaims, “This is the standard that we have to set when we build facilities here for our student-athletes. We talk about inspiring Maryland pride. This inspires pride”.

Hollman completed the University of Maryland locker room renovation and installation in conjunction with local women-owned business enterprises, who sourced 10% of all materials, goods, and services to benefit the immediate community.

With renovations being complete, the Terrapins were ready for their upcoming season and, with the help of Hollman, had the perfect locker room for it.

Project Insights: Clemson University – Men’s Basketball Locker Room

Clemson University Men’s Basketball new locker room is “next level” with the help of Hollman, Inc.

Following their 2020-21 season, Clemson University Men’s Basketball team got the renovation they needed to enhance their student-athlete experience. Clemson’s Associate AD of Facilities Management and Capital Projects, Eric Sabin, took on the task by contacting Hollman, Inc. with the intention of redesigning their player’s second home.

Clemson came to Hollman wanting to improve accessibility, automation, and layout. The redesign’s goal was to maximize space, integrate technology, and maintain continuity with the other facilities on campus.

With growth in mind, a refined look was wanted for the locker room to attract recruits. The previous locker room had open-faced lockers that exposed all the player’s belongings. With a lack of storage options and with prospects in mind, Hollman stepped in to help resolve their problems.

The new locker room features include customized Clemson emblems including the term “Grit” inspired by Coach Brownell, UV printed paw handles, LCD displays with cloud-based drivers, and an anti-microbial design.

The lockers were built with edge-lit floating acrylic shelves, interior personal storage, and a ventilated shoe drawer to maximize storage. Technology advancements include wireless charging and personalized LCD displays providing information to let players stay updated with schedules, statistics, weather, and more.

“This place is sweet man. It’s definitely a nice treat,” exclaims PJ Hall at the teams locker room reveal.

The result was a locker room providing all necessary storage and premium technology desired. With the project completed, Clemson’s basketball team got the revamp needed to keep the program satisfied for years to come.

With the help of Hollman Athletic Lockers, “the guys love the lockers”

“Their lockers are absolutely huge,” Patrick Johnston, director of football operations, added.
“They are 42 inches wide with tons of storage space.”

Earlier this month the team at West Virginia University unveiled their new facility at Mountaineer Field. This locker room renovation was all a part of WVU’s Climbing Higher campaign and transformed their previous 5,625 square feet space to 11,125 square feet.

“The guys love the lockers,” said head coach, Neal Brown. “They’re spacious. They’ve got their own chargers, their own plugs, their hometown and their picture up above them and the music and video boards throughout are impressive.” (247sports.com)

“What’s even more impressive is the fact that enough room was carved out for former Mountaineer players now playing in the NFL who regularly return to campus during the offseason to work out with strength and conditioning coach Mike Joseph.” (wvusports.com)
