Project Insight: Duke University Football Locker Room

Duke University Football Locker Room Upgrade

Duke University’s Football team is ready to take on the 2024 football season with their upgraded locker room. The design vision aimed to reflect the unique Duke brand while offering exceptional functionality. The newly modernized space is set to enhance the team’s experience, both on and off the field.

Each incorporated element is purposeful and meant to improve the organization and productivity within the locker room. Each locker has ventilated spaces to store and cool shoulder pads and helmets – great for sweaty gear.

Additional storage space can be found behind the moveable seat and pull-out display for players to store and hang other personal belongings. Keeping extra storage space out of sight keeps the locker room looking clean and ready for any drop in recruit visits.

The Duke identity is embodied in the locker room, from the blue LED lights to the Duke logo on the bottom grill, the custom stitched headrest, and custom display hooks. Every detail has been thoughtfully designed to reflect the team’s spirit and tradition.

Through Hollman’s process of locker design innovation, Duke University’s Football team now enjoys a state-of-the-art locker room that embodies their brand and supports their pursuit of excellence on the field.

Notable design features:

  • Custom LED backlit lift-up shoulder pad compartment with ventilation
  • Acuted LED lights
  • Custom powder-coated vertical pull-out display
  • Custom Duke logo grill with LED lighting
  • USB outlet
  • Ventilation fan under helmet display
  • Moveable seat with extra hidden storage space
  • Custom display hook
  • Blue powder shoulder pad holder
  • Ojmar OCS Pro Lock on lock box

Cincinnati Enquirer Exclusive: University of Cincinnati unveils new game day football locker room

The University of Cincinnati is gearing up for the 2022 football season and for its upcoming move to the Big 12 Conference.

The university on Wednesday unveiled its newly renovated game day football locker room, a part of the school’s first wave of facility upgrades ahead of its July 1, 2023, move from the American Athletic Conference to the Big 12 Conference.

“This was such an important piece for our football program,” UC Director of Athletics John Cunningham said. “It’s a reflection of where our football program currently is, which is a top-20 program in the country. This is the type of facility that we need to compete Day 1 in the Big 12.”

The newly renovated locker room, located inside the Richard E. Lindner Center on UC’s main campus, features an additional 2,000 square feet of space, a new sound system, a fuel station and nutrition bar, and a hype tunnel that leads to Nippert Stadium.

The $4 million face-lift also includes an enhanced ventilation system, 120 custom lockers with each player’s name and number, and graphics and images that highlight many of the standout performers from last season’s team that reached the College Football Playoff.

The project, which also included a renovation of the Bob Goin football team room, was paid for entirely by the university’s Day One Ready Campaign, a $100 million fundraising effort.

Skanska USA served as the construction manager for the renovation. Skanska senior project engineer Zack Tobler, who played basketball for the Bearcats from 2013-17, oversaw much of the project. Tobler, whose father, Matt, owns a construction company, followed in his father’s footsteps after graduating from UC with an accounting degree.

“I’ve been in the student-athletes’ shoes, so I know what they’re going through,” Tobler said. “I like to be able to give back to them in any way I can. It’s not as much monetary right now, but time and everything. So, I think it was really cool for me to be able to try to give back at least a little bit to them.”

Luke Fickell and the two-time defending AAC champion Bearcats will officially christen their new game day space when they host Kennesaw State on Sept. 10. Cincinnati, which is ranked No. 23 in the preseason AP Top 25 poll, opens its 2022 season Sept. 3 at No. 19 Arkansas.

Project Insights | University of Maryland Football Locker Room

University of Maryland’s new football facility is transformational for players with renovations from Hollman Athletic lockers.

After years of planning and building, the University of Maryland unveiled Jones-Hill House, a brand-new facility that will home their football program. With a revamp in mind, Hollman Inc. became involved to create an eye-catching locker room to complement the other remodels.

The University of Maryland’s goals with the renovations were to improve the program’s ability to develop a student-athlete experience and attract recruits. Hollman’s engineering and research and development teams got creative by designing a locker that emphasized storage, ventilation, and representation of the great state of Maryland.

The lockers are comprised of hybrid materials with a solid surface, Nanolam, the latest micro-technology lamination whose super-opaque surface has a velvet, soft-to-the-touch finish. Each locker included powder-coated, stainless-steel edging and additional phenolic and acrylic finishes. Above all, the real attraction is the high degree of personalization and branding that went into each locker and cubby.

The new lockers each include custom, backlit nameplates with each player’s head shots, position, and hometown. All include lower ventilated deck pullout drawers with a custom monochrome facsimile of the state flag of Maryland, embossed on a perforated metal grill.

In addition to the lockers, each of the 126 cubbies featured an overstuffed custom leather Captain’s Chair, embossed with Maryland’s classic M Bar logo, capable of fully reclining. The recliners also featured full power outlets, USB charging stations, and Digilock, a secure and lockable storage area with vertically recessed interior lighting.

“This is the standard for Maryland,” University of Maryland’s Damon Evans exclaims, “This is the standard that we have to set when we build facilities here for our student-athletes. We talk about inspiring Maryland pride. This inspires pride”.

Hollman completed the University of Maryland locker room renovation and installation in conjunction with local women-owned business enterprises, who sourced 10% of all materials, goods, and services to benefit the immediate community.

With renovations being complete, the Terrapins were ready for their upcoming season and, with the help of Hollman, had the perfect locker room for it.
