Google’s new workspace fitness lockers, provided by Hollman Lockers
INTRODUCTION
Google wanted to expand their Cambridge Center office space to accommodate for their exponential employee growth. Google provides many different types of workspaces to best suit their 1,500+ employees. With the endless possibilities of workspaces to choose from, Google has not forgotten about their employees’ health. Google provides an on-site gym for their employees to use. Google’s design team partnered with Hollman to provide the best quality workspace fitness lockers for their employees.
“Google opened its first office in Cambridge back in 2003, and fifteen years later, we’ve grown to over 1,500 employees, working on major projects like Search, Android, Cloud, YouTube, Google Play, Research, Ads and more,” says Google Cambridge site lead Brian Cusack. “This new space will provide room for future growth and further unites our commitment to the Cambridge community. We’re proud to call this city home and will continue to support its vibrant nonprofit and growing business community.”
CHALLENGE
The designers of Google’s Cambridge location integrated Google culture with Boston culture to create a one-of-a-kind office. According to NELSON, the goal was to create a campus that was a “truly Boston/Cambridge space, with specific nods to both.” For this reason, Google wanted to continue this theme in the locker rooms.
SOLUTION + BENEFITS
Hollman provided a combination of models for Google’s fitness lockers. Such as double-tier model b, triple-tier model c, and four-tier model d lockers. Some come with an integrated bench. The lockers are 14W x 18D x 80H. Underneath the integrated bench, there are open cubbies for additional storage. The cubbies are 14W x 18D x 14H.
Additionally, they chose a combination of smooth and textured laminates to finish the lockers. Wilsonart Fawn Cypress, a textured laminate, was custom-ordered for this project. The smooth laminate used to break up the Fawn Cypress is by Abet Laminati.
Finally, the team chose the Keyless360 in satin-nickel from Keyless Co. Most importantly, this lock doesn’t require any keys. Instead, the Keyless360 allows the user to select a combination made up of a number and a letter.
RESULTS
Together with Hollman Workspace Lockers‘ help, Google provided their employees with enough space to store their belongings while they hit the gym. Hollman produced over 100 lockers for this space. Additionally, the lockers fit the overall office’s theme by adding a pop of color to stand out.
